The 360cycling Junior Tour/U23 of the North West with Alé Ambassador, Lydia Watts

How did our Alé ambassador, Lydia, get on at her most recent race? Find out below…

“Over the Jubilee weekend I headed up north to Preston to compete in the 4th round of the U23/Junior National Series race which was the 360cycling Junior Tour of the North West.

The two-day stage race consisted of 3 stages – a 6km prologue and a 58km road race with 800m of climbing on the first day, and then a 65km road race with 1,050m of climbing on the second day.

I had a strong start to the race placing 5th in the prologue which I was pleased with. The prologue played to my strengths as most of the course had a headwind so I could put my TT skills to good use. Following on from the prologue, I placed 8th in stage 2 which put me in 8th place on the general classification going into day two / stage 3.

The third stage did not suit my strengths as a bike rider, so I had to be careful with my race tactics to make sure I could stay in 8th place on the general classification or, even better, if I could improve it. The weather conditions throughout the morning on stage 3 were interesting, with lots of rain and wind, which meant the course had lots of mud and standing water…making an interesting race. Luckily, I had my Alé Guscio Iridescent reflective jacket to keep me warm before the race began. In the end I placed 9th on stage 3 but I was still able to maintain my 8th place on the general classification.

Overall, I was pleased with my performance over the weekend! Up next for me is Cicle Classic and then I will be heading up to Scotland for the British National Championships where I will compete in the TT and Road Race.”
